About our Ingredients
Sugar Flower Cake Shop strives to create masterpiece cakes by using the freshest products from local farms and New York City’s Greenmarkets. Inspired by our original location in the bountiful Hudson Valley, each cake is created from scratch, relying on locally sourced ingredients as much as possible. Ingredients that cannot be sourced locally are obtained from producers employing sustainable principles.
Butter
Butter is made from organic sweet cream produced by cows raised on simple, chemical free hay and pasture.
Eggs
One of our suppliers is Knoll Krest Farm in Clinton Corners, NY, one of the last remaining egg farms in Dutchess County. The Messerich family, who has run Knoll Krest Farm for generations, hand collects the eggs from their free running hens.
Flour
The highest quality flour for cakes is produced by King Arthur, America’s oldest flour company. They were founded in 1790 and are now located in Vermont.
Milk and Cream
Milk Thistle Dairy, an organic, family-owned dairy farm in Ghent, NY that employs the biodynamic practices developed by Rudolph Steiner delivers our milk in old fashioned glass bottles. The farmers grow all of the food their cows eat, never utilizing chemical pesticides or fertilizers and know each cow by name!
Sugar
Since sugar is not available in this region, Sugar Flower Cake Shop seeks out producers who make the world a sweeter place. Organic sugar cane from Wholesome Sweeteners is grown on co-operative, sustainable family farms in Paraguay and is produced in an energy self sufficient sugar mill, avoiding the use of any fossil fuels. The Fair Trade label guarantees that the farmers are paid a fair price directly, ensuring they can enjoy higher living standards and continue to develop their impoverished communities.
Chocolate
Dark Valhrona Guanaja chocolate pieces and cocoa powder, made from a blend of cocoa beans in South America, form the base of our chocolate icings, cakes and fillings. The Valhrona company is situated in the small town of Tain L'Hermitage, located within a wine-growing district near Lyon, France.
Sugar Flower Cake Shop continuously achieves its goal of baking memorable cakes that are as delicious and wholesome as they are beautiful. As an added benefit of using local and sustainable ingredients, you are helping to sustain small towns and the local farming community. Thank you!
